Furniture Tip over protection

STURDY Act Requirements for Furniture Tip Over Protection
(In effect as of September 1, 2023)

The STURDY Act stands for Stop Tip-overs of Unstable, Risky Dressers on Youth Act and was passed by Congress and signed into law December 2022. The STURDY Act went into effect on September 1, 2023 requiring furniture makers to be in compliance with the act’s rules moving forward for furniture tip over prevention.

The STURDY act provides for a standard for dressers and other storage furniture to provide furniture tip over prevention by requiring strong and practical stability tests.

Since 2000, more than 470 children have tragically died from furniture tip-overs…many of whom were less than 6 years of age. The STURDY act seeks to prevent child deaths from falling furniture.

Würth Baer Supply Company is your supplier for anti-tip protection products to help furniture makers build the safest furniture to meet the STURDY act requirements and be in compliance.

NEW Wesko Anti-Tip Drawer System

Anti-tip mechanism is mounted in the gap behind the drawer box. Mechanism is activated by a latch mounted on the rear of the drawer box. As one drawer is opened, connecting bars are blocked and all remaining latches are locked. Available in Rear or Side mount versions.

Innotec Innviromass Counterweights

These counterweights are added to the interior back panel near the bottom of the unit, maximizing their effect in lowering the center of gravity and reducing tipping risk. Secured via a no slip glue strip. Made of 100% recycled materials and an eco-friendly alternative to lead and steel taking up less space while holding high density and heavy weight.

CompX Timberline SN-400 Furniture Anti-Tip Interlock System 400

Prevents more than one drawer from being opened at a time. When either drawer is pulled open, the drawer clip on that drawer moves the snapper into a locked position. This prevents any further drawers from being opened at the same time and reduces the chance of the furniture tipping.

B Walter Furniture Anti-Tip Restraint

One restraint bracket is attached to a wall stud approximately 2” below the top of the furniture. The other bracket is secured to the top edge of the furniture. Position the furniture so both mounting brackets are vertically aligned and lace the restraining strap through them.
